POLOKWANE – Jaycey Pinn is the man to be beat in fencing.
Pinn is a member of the Fire Bird Fencing Club and represented Limpopo in the national fencing championships recently.
He was awarded a bronze medal in the épée senior category after his club’s friendly fencing competition against Eresabel Fencing Club on Saturday. He took part in both the épée and foil categories.
“I was encouraged to participate in fencing after watching the Olympics. The sport is fun and needs someone who is quick and has a sharp eye,” says Jaycey.
Despite the fact that there are only two fencing clubs in the province, Jaycey is determined to grow in the sport.
Dottie Pinn, Jaycey’s mother, describes him as hard working, committed and passionate about fencing.
“I am happy that my son is part of a professional fencing club that has the best coaches and players. I believe that he will continue to represent the province well.
“I would also like to encourage young people to join the sport so that they can build something good for themselves,” she says.
Jaycey says his father is his mentor and he would like to achieve great things to make him proud.
“My father taught me a lot of things and I want to follow in his footsteps.”
He urges young people to keep away from harmful substances such as alcohol and drugs.
