Limpopo Blue Bulls take a beating in Kimberley

POLOKWANE – The Vodacom Cup team of the GWK Griquas remains unbeaten after a run-away victory of 68-13 against the Assupol Limpopo Blue Bulls on Friday at the GWK Park in Kimberley.

As made clear in the Bull’s match against the Leopards from North West, their defense proved to be one of this team’s biggest problems as the Griquas ran circles around them.

At half time the home team lead the match 33-6.

The Bulls’ six points came off flyhalf Andy Huysamen’s boot after he succeeded with two penalty kicks.

Two yellow cards were handed to the Bulls in the first half.

In the ninth minute of the match Wiehan Uys earned a yellow card and in the 40th minute referee Marius Jonker penalised Wade Schoor with the team’s second yellow card.

The Bulls had to start the second half with a player short, but it was in the 61th minute that scrumhalf, Niyaas Johnson, brought realief for his team when he ran a good 60 metres to score a try under the goal post after picking up the ball from the back of the scrum.

Huysamen scored an easy conversion to take their points to 13.

The Griquas quickly retaliated by scoring a try scarcely two minutes later after the Bulls scored their one and only try to stretch the lead out of reach for the visitors.

Another yellow card, third of the match for the Limpopo side, in the 71th minute for flanker Arno Johnson did not do much to help their endeavour to increase their score of 13 points. As usual when one player is sin binned for ten minutes, it leaves a gaping hole in any team’s defence as was the case here, with Griquas scoring two more tries before the end of play to win 68-13.

The Limpopo Blue Bulls will travel this Saturday to Sasolburg where they will challenge the side of the Falcons.
