Netball trials produce an ace team

POLOKWANE – Netball players from across the province played their hearts out to win a place in the provincial team at the trials that were held at the Polokwane netball courts on Saturday.
Only 15 players were selected to represent Limpopo in the Netball Premier League, which starts on May 10 and ends in June.
Netball South Africa (NSA) representatives attended the trials.
There are 10 teams in the league. The first games will be played at the University of Pretoria and will be televised on the SuperSport channel.
Limpopo netball chairperson, Jane Maake, said the Limpopo netball team would play in the second division of the league.
Christine du Preez, selection director from NSA said the association always encouraged coaches to scout players during regional games to form a team that would play in the nationals.
“I see a lot of talent in Limpopo. Local municipalities and sports confederations should join forces with sports groups to unearth talent and produce good players to put the province on the map,” she said.
According to Du Preez, the players who were selected were talented, but they still had to work on a few issues.
Cecilia Molokwane, Limpopo netball coach, said the selections went very well and the team that was selected had a great chance of winning the league.
“I have a well balanced team and I think we will do our best and hopefully come home with the rewards. We will compete against KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape and the Western Cape.”
