POLOKWANE – Johan Steinberg and Riaan Koekemoer were crowned the winners of the Rotary Club 100 golf challenge that took place at the Polokwane Golf Club on Friday.

More than 64 golfers participated in this challenge, the main purpose of which was to raise money to support various charity organisations in the province.

Steinberg and Koekemoer won the challenge with 52 points, followed by Jose Afonso and Dudley Venner with 48 points.

Riaan Nel and Ernest Faver claimed the third spot with 47 points, while Keith Badenhorst and Duncan Menzies occupied the fourth place with 47 points on a count-out.

Pieter Botha claimed the prize for the straightest drive, while Jannie Bronkhorst took the prize for the longest drive.

Mpho Makhado claimed the award for nearest to the pin at hole eight and Attie Buitendag won the prize for nearest to the pin at hole 11.

The prizes won by golfers who were not present at the prize giving were auctioned.

Bruno Tschudin of Rotary Club 100 said the golf day raised about R130 000. “We had a lot of fun at the eighth and 11th holes, where we collected around R1 500,” he said.

He said the foundation was always looking for worthy members to join the club, and help achieve its main objective by making a difference in the community it served.
