Lim scoops third spot
The Limpopo police soccer team claimed third place in the South African Police Service national soccer championship, which was held in the province last week.
POLOKWANE – The Limpopo police soccer team claimed third place in the South African Police Service national soccer championship, which was held in the province last week.
The championship, which started on Monday and ended on Friday, was held at Noordelikes sports grounds and at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex.
The Gauteng team emerged victorious and they walked away with a trophy and gold medals. They were followed by KwaZulu-Natal in second place and Limpopo in third place.
Last year, Limpopo came second in the championship.
During the championship Limpopo beat North West 1-0, beat Western Cape 1-0, drew 2-2 with Mpumalanga, lost 2-1 to Gauteng and beat North West 2-0.
According to Noko Sefamela, Limpopo police team manager, the players did exceptionally well even though they did not win the championship.
“I believe that there is room for improvement. We will go back to the drawing board and rectify the mistakes that were made during the tournament. All the provinces wanted to beat Limpopo as we were the host and that gave us a tough time,” said Sefamela.
He said four schools also participated in the championship, and they received soccer kits.
The schools that participated were Khaiso High School, Masedibu Secondary School, Millennium Combined School and Kabelo Secondary School. The schools played in a round-robin format and Millennium was he winner, walking away with a trophy and gold medals.
Next year’s South African Police Services national soccer championship will be held in the Western Cape.
