Winds of change blow at City FC

THE new Polokwane City FC coach, Kosta Papic, had less than a week to work with the players after he received his work permit, but judging from the changes he made to the team, who lost 2-1 to Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout on Sunday, the Serbian mentor lived up to his promises of change.

After the match against Pirates, Papic said he was not happy with the results, but was surprised by the way the players reacted to his tactics and promised to clear the dark cloud that hung over the club for the past six matches.

“I only had a week to work with the players. The way they played against Pirates was fantastic. We made a few mistakes and we will work on that. I made changes to the team and more changes will come.”

The former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs mentor surprised fans when he dropped four defenders who were obvious choices for the club.

Team captain Thabelo Tshilo, Sfiso Mbhele, Elias Ngoepe and Vukile Mngqibisa were all relegated to the stands, while the experienced former Golden Arrows defender, Joseph Musonda, Tshepo Tema, Tokelo Langa and Lebohang Motumi got the nod.

City FC will play their next league match away against Bloemfontein Celtic next Sunday.

Striker, Roggert Nyundu is likely to make a comeback after his injury. In his absence, veterans Esau Kanyenda and Thobani Ncwango led the attack against Pirates.

Tokelo Langa, who capped his debut premiership match with a fine goal, said he was happy to be given a chance to play and promised to work even harder for the club.

“I was happy to play and I did not expect to score, but it is a nice feeling. I look forward to scoring a few more goals to help the team climb up the ladder,” he said.
