POLOKWANE – Two soccer teams from the province took part in the national finals of the Sanlam Kay Motsepe Cup, which was held at the Giant Stadium in Pretoria from October 6 to 9.
Benny’s Care Sports Development Academy and Makikele High School were unfortunately eliminated, with Makikele finishing in 10th place, while Benny’s Care finished in 11th place.
According to David Mufamadi, Benny’s Care, managing director, the team was eliminated in the fifth match after losing 1-0 to Northern Cape.
He said players did their best during the tournament and he was proud of them.
“It is unfortunate we could not play in the finals, but the players did exceptionally well. We will go back to the drawing board and prepare for next year’s tournament,” he said.
The two teams had to battle it out for 10th and 11th place, and Makikele won the game 6-5 in the penalty shoot-out.
The game between the two teams ended with 1-1 draw after Mutshudzi Nemaxwi of Benny’s Care and Khutso Malatjie of Makikele found the back of the net.
