Racing for Anton
Saturday's events at the oval track was not only about racing, but also to raise money for Anton Bosman (18).
POLOKWANE – Saturday’s events at the oval track was not only about racing, but also to raise money for Anton Bosman (18).
Anton suffers from rhabdomyosarcoma cancer (RMS), which is a cancerous tumour that develops in the body’s soft tissues, usually the muscles.
It can affect the head, neck, bladder, arms, legs, or just about any part of the body.
The day was organised by Polokwane Ovals in cooperation with Lynx Arm Wrestling club.
One of the organisers, Chantel Bosch, said she was shocked to read about Anton’s story in Review and felt she had to do something to help his family.
“I felt it was my responsibility to do something to help the family with Anton’s medical expenses. The family has to pay at least R3 000 a week for Anton to get the medical assistance he requires,” she said.
Participants paid R50 to challenge arm wrestler, Danie Fourie, with R500 at stake, but no one managed to beat the champion.
Bosch said they raised R3 680 on the day.
“The money raised is not enough, but it will help the family. There are other race events coming up to raise money for Anton. There will be a race in Mokopane on November 15 and in Polokwane on November 29,” said Bosch.
Johan Bosman, Anton’s father, said the family was grateful to see that residents were willing to help. “This means a lot to the family. We are very grateful and we would like to thank everyone who supported this initiative,” said Bosman.
Anton could not attend the ga-thering as he is weak and very sick.
Bosch urged residents to help Anton’s family. Anyone who is willing to help can contact her at 076 437 2622 or (015) 293 2638.
