POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Golf Club saw elegant displays of golf on Sunday when 69 golfers teed off in the Polokwane Open.
Hilton Hughes, the winner of the A-division, scored an impressive seven below par in the first round.
“It was a matter of putting well. It felt like a dream, every put just went in,” explained Hughes.
On the second 18, Hughes kept fighting to keep the lead and scored a stunning 138 points.
“The wind picked up on the last nine holes but overall, apart from the heat, the conditions were perfect,” he said.
Edwin Mackays, the runner-up in the A-division, scored 148 points, while Nico Myburgh secured the third place with 149 points on a count-out.
In the B-division, Riaan Nel took the lead with 163 points followed by Thys de Kock who took the second place with 164 points. Aaron Segwapa secured third place only one shot behind De Kock with 165 points.
Malebane Pataki won the prize for the best overall nett score with 143 points.
In the C-division, Ruffat Mokonyane won first place scoring 79 stableford points followed by Joas Legodi on 76 points. Piet Malherbe secured the third spot with 64 points.
