Jomo Cricket Academy will face Eagles Cricket Club for a friendly match at Pemps' sports grounds
POLOKWANE – Jomo Cricket Academy will face Eagles Cricket Club for a friendly match at Pemps’ sports grounds on Saturday.
The game was initially scheduled for the past weekend, but was postponed due to rain.
According to Jomo Masedi, Jomo Academy is trying to boost teams in rural areas by giving them game time.
He says people in rural areas don’t take the sport of cricket seriously.
“There are talented young cricketers in rural areas, but they cannot showcase their talents as there are not enough cricket teams where they live. Our academy is open to everyone and we are hoping to produce the best cricketers,” says Masedi.
He says the academy was established in 1999 and has produced players who are now playing for provincial teams.
Jomo Cricket Academy does not take part in any professional leagues, but hopes to do so in the near future.
“We are currently focused on developing teams in rural areas and producing the best players the country has ever seen.”
