POLOKWANE – Polokwane Athletics Club hosted the GWM Nite Race at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday, where athletes could choose between the 10km race and the 5km fun run.
This was the first year that GWM Motors from the BB Motor Group sponsored the popular event, which saw the first 300 finishers in each of the races receive newly-designed medals. All races started at 18:30 and were run over a safe and well-lit circular route, with the start and finish at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, with water points every 3km along the route.
There was prize money totalling R5 000 up for grabs in the 10km race.
Winnie Kruger (78) competed in the 5km fun run and said she enjoyed running even though she was not that strong anymore.
“Running is one of the sports that people should participate in to stay fit and to live a healthy lifestyle. My son Pieter always runs next to me to make sure I am safe,” said Kruger.
She said it was fun running with a lot of people as you could socialise and make new friends.
The results of the races were unavailable at the time of going to print.
