Rearing to go: Ledwaba set for the next Comrades Marathon

POLOKWANE – Eric Ledwaba of Polokwane Athletics Club recently took part in the Soweto Marathon, where he was awarded a bronze medal after he completed the race in a time of 03:11.
Ledwaba started participating in marathons in 2000 and says it is a sport people should consider participating in.
This year, Ledwaba completed the Comrades Marathon in a time of 07:49 and says he aims to improve his time next year and finish in sub six hours.
“I have already started to prepare for next year’s Comrades and Two Oceans Marathons. These two races are special as I will be celebrating my 50th birthday next year. I want to prove to other people that age is nothing but a number,” says Ledwaba.
He says his best Comrades Marathon time is 06:35.
Asked about the use of banned substances among runners, Ledwaba advises athletes to think about their careers before they do anything illegal.
“Athletes should use legal supplements such as 32Gi to store energy. I don’t think there is an excuse for anyone who tests positive for a banned substance. Let us follow the rules of the sport,” he says.
He says he plans to hang his running shoes at the age of 70 and focus on sharing his experience and knowledge with the younger generation.
“I am available if anyone needs to train to become a professional athlete.”
