POLOKWANE – PSG FC, a soccer team from Lebowakgomo, were crowned as the winners of the 2014 Tlou Segolela Festive Season Tournament, which was held in Moletjie from December 24 to 31.
PSG beat Sengatane Golden Stars FC 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out in the final round of the tournament that was played at the Black Rovers sports grounds in Moletjie on December 31.
The Tlou Segolela Festive Season Tournament is hosted annually by Tlou Segolela Sports Development (TSSD), a non-profit organisation, and this year 32 soccer teams and 12 netball teams battled it out for first place.
The tournament is the brainchild of Orlando Pirates FC midfielder Tlou “Gautrain” Segolela and was established four years ago. It has since grown in popularity every year.
PSG FC walked away with R80 000 of which R15 000 will be donated to a charity of their choice.
According to tournament coordinator, Mpho Moloto, the tournament was well supported and all the teams played excellent games.
“The Tlou Segolela Festive Season Tournament is the biggest festive tournament in the pro-vince and offers local teams an opportunity to play professional soccer. I would like to thank all the sponsors, teams and soccer fans for making the tournament a success. We look forward to host another tournament at the end of this year,” said Moloto.
