Bad start for Peace United
After gaining three points in a forfeit due to the University of Limpopo's failure to honour their league match, Peace United suffered back-to-back defeats.
THEY are respected for playing carpet (artificial turf) football in the local SAB Castle league, but Peace United have been struggling to get top results of late and they did not have the start they would have hoped for in the 2014/15 season.
After gaining three points in a forfeit due to the University of Limpopo’s failure to honour their league match, United suffered back-to-back defeats.
They suffered a 4-2 drubbing at the hands of SAB Castle league newcomers, Tau-Tau FC, and a 1-0 loss against Maeba Chiefs.
On Saturday afternoon, United scrambled to gain three points when they beat third-placed Ray Pillars 1-0 at the Seshego Stadium, but their head coach, Paen Nkhwashu, is upbeat and believes his charges have turned a corner and will build on their first win.
He says he uses young players who are eager to learn and will be very competitive when they get used to playing with the “big boys”.
“Some will call it being too ambitious, but we want to win the league.
“We did not have the best of starts but we have now taken the monkey off our backs.
“We lost some of our regular players due to school commitments and we were forced to promote a group of our u/17 players to fill those gaps. Once they learn the ropes we will be the team to beat,” a confident Nkhwashu says.
United will have to prove that their win over Pillars was no fluke when they travel to Botlokwa for a date with log leaders Molemole Academy on Saturday.
Molemole Academy was one of four teams that formed part of the SAB Castle league festival and seems to have put their exposure to effective use.
United have established themselves as bad travellers and it remains to be seen if they will upset Molemole Academy in their own backyard.
