Lim’s Montjane now ranked 8th in the world

POLOKWANE – Limpopo wheelchair tennis player, Kgothatso Montjane, ransacked this season’s opening event, the Queensland Open in Brisbane, Australia where she won the women’s singles title last weekend.
The finals saw the first set being decided in a tiebreaker against the world number 10, Lucy Shuker from Great Britain.
Montjane’s confidence soared to new levels in the second set as she rallied her way to the singles title with a 7-6, 6-2 scoreline and in the process moved up to number eight on the world ranking.
Montjane and Shuker buried the hatchet after their singles duel and joined forces to oust Charlotte Famin of France and Katharina Kruger of Germany 6-3, 6-1 in the women’s doubles.
A clearly elated Montjane hoped to continue her winning streak at the next stop of the tour in Sydney, Australia for a Super Series event.
This event, the Sydney Open Wheelchair Tennis Open is scheduled to take place last week.
Montjane won her first round fixture against the Australian Janel Manns 6-2, 6-1; but suffered a loss against Aniek van Koot, ranked as the second best player in the world, in the quarterfinals.
Van Koot made her way to the semi-finals, beating Montjane with 6-4, 6-4.
