POLOKWANE – The ever-popular Ebenezer Mile open water swimming event will take place at the picturesque Ebenezer dam outside Haenertsburg on March 21.

The mile keeps enticing loyal swimmers back year after year and this open water swim just gets better every year.

Past swimmers and supporters alike rated the efficient organisation, the friendliness of the locals and the beautiful surroundings and pristine water as among the best in the country.

Rotary Haenertsburg has been organising this event for the past 13 years, with the fantastic support of large national corporate sponsors and many smaller local companies and organisations alike.

Rotary Haenertsburg has evolved the management of this event into a professional and slick operation over the years and uses the latest timing methods.

It is a fabulous and enjoyable festive fun day for the whole family in the great outdoors.

There is also a variety of food stalls, a beer tent and a great atmosphere at the venue of the Mountain Yacht Club on the Ebenezer dam near Haenertsburg.

The 1 600 m open water swim and the 3 000 m open water swim attracts some swimmers who are fiercely competitive and super fit for this sport and participate in the national open water swimming circuit for their own personal achievements.

While the competitive swimmers challenge themselves there are the large majority of swimmers who come out and swim for the fun of it, choosing the mile distance or the easy 500 m fun course.

Children of all ages can take part and the first event starts at 11:00.

Online entries for the mile as well as the 3 000 m swim cost R115 per person while registration fees on the day will cost R130 per swimmer. The 500 m swim costs R80 per swimmer.

A family discount is offered at R105 per swimmer for three or more family members entering.
