POLOKWANE – Polokwane’s golfers claimed the Limpopo Golf League title for the first time since 1990 during the finals, which were held in November.
The competition spans from May until November each year, with 16 teams competing at golf courses throughout Limpopo for the honours.
Polokwane Golf Club was represented in the Limpopo Golf League by golfers, Raymand Pratt, Brian O’Reilly, Morné Myburgh, Sous Greyvenstein, Ferdi Kirsten, Kobus Marnewick, Martin van Ghent, Francois Goosen, Raoul van Zyl, Dirk Visagie, Craig Hawken, Duncan Menzies, Riaan Piek and Piet Bronkhorst.
“We made a real breakthrough in the tournament when we played in Musina,” said Raymond Pratt, the team captain.
“We managed to secure a great lead after that tournament and it saw us through to the finals,” explained Pratt.
The finals took place in Mokopane on November 22, where team Polokwane won with 33 points, followed by Koro Creek Golf Club in second place with 28 points.
Pratt said bringing the trophy home to the Polokwane Golf Club was very special for them as it has been 25 years since the Polokwane Golf Club won the trophy.
“Kobus Marnewick and Ferdi Kirstein both had a superb season and we look forward to defending the title this year,” added Pratt.
