Limpopo squash trials

Squash players and supporters filled the Polokwane Squash Club on Saturday for the Limpopo junior squash trials.

POLOKWANE – Squash players and supporters filled the Polokwane Squash Club on Saturday for the Limpopo junior squash trials.

The trials to select players that would form part of the provincial squash team for the inter-provincial squash championships in Bloemfontein.

Trials coordinator, Yvonne Kotze, said squash was becoming more popular in the province and more players were needed.

“The trials were well supported and we believe that the team that is selected will fly the Limpopo flag high in the inter-provincial squash gathering. Last year we did exceptionally well and we are hoping to do even better this year,” she said.

She added that there were extremely talented squash players in the province. She said they only selected players who were committed, hard working and knew their game very well.

The trials were attended by players aged between 13 and 19 years.

“Being a squash player needs determination and hard work to excel and finally get South African ranking. Players compete in various tournaments to qualify for the South African ranking,” Kotze explained.

She said she was certain that the Limpopo team would do well and proceed to the national squash championships.

The 2014 girls u/14 champion, Reese Bain, was also part of the Limpopo team and she would defend her title this year, she said.

Kotze urged players to stay fit and ready to compete.
