Supersport United derail Amakhosi train
Runaway log leaders Kaizer Chiefs were handed their first defeat of the season when they went down 2-0 to Supersport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.
POLOKWANE – Runaway log leaders Kaizer Chiefs were handed their first defeat of the season when they went down 2-0 to Supersport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.
Second half goals by newcomer Jeremy Brockie and substitute Togolese international Dove Wome ensured that Chiefs’ lead on the log was cut from 15 points to just 10. Amakhosi have in the past made the Peter Mokaba their happy hunting grounds and the defeat against United was a bitter pill to swallow for their supporters, some of whom continued to boo former player Kingston Nkhatha, who now dons the blue and white of Supersport United and was instrumental in United’s second goal.
Another section Chiefs’ faithfuls chanted the name of their tried and trusted goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune who is yet to play a league match since his injury last year, with coach Stuart Baxter preferring Brilliant Khuzwayo.
Amakhosi are yet to win the match this year following a goalless draw with Bloemfontein Celtic in their opening match. Bidvest Wits have closed the gap between them and Amakhosi following a 2-0 win over struggling Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium on Tuesday night.
Both Supersport United and Kaizer Chiefs use the Peter Mokaba Stadium as an alternative home ground and following their victory over Chiefs, United seem to have claimed not only the bragging rights but the true ownership of the World Cup venue as well.
