2 teams no shows at POLFA’s stream B of the city cluster

Instead of three matches, only one match was played between hosts, Leopards Express and Extension 71 FC at the Karee Base sports grounds in the Polokwane Local Football Association (Polfa) league stream B of the city cluster.

POLOKWANE – WHAT was supposed to be a football feast with three matches scheduled to take place at the Karee Base sports grounds on Sunday, turned out to be a total disappointment for the scores of supporters who had anticipated six teams to face-off in the Polokwane Local Football Association (Polfa) league stream B of the city cluster.

Instead of three matches, only one match was played between hosts, Leopards Express and Extension 71 FC, with Extention 71 running riot over their opponents to win the match 6-2.

The other two matches did not take place as Naughty Boys FC and William Stars FC failed to honour their fixtures for the second week running.

Limpopo Sports School of Excellence FC (LSSE) and Phumelela Football Academy, who waited in vain for their opponents to pitch up, ended up playing a friendly match, which LSSE won 3-1.

The Westenburg and Seshego clusters are said to be on track, with all affiliated clubs honouring their matches.

The coordinator of the city cluster, Martin Lesudi, said drastic steps would be taken against all clubs who affiliated, but failed to honour their fixtures.

“We are not going to have a situation in which clubs do as they wish in an organised league like ours. We will not be afraid to expel those teams because they are destabilising the league. We are doing our best to develop football in the district and certain clubs seem to be counter-productive, and we will not allow that. Let them fail to honour their fixtures again and they will kiss the league goodbye.

“Teams spend money to travel to match venues, only to return without kicking the ball, which is unfair,” said Lesudi.

The director of football at Limpopo Sports School of Excellence, Hendrick Mukwevho, said some clubs affiliated to the local league so that they qualified to play for the Polokwane Municipality Mayor’s Cup.

“It is not surprising to see certain clubs snubbing their fixtures because their main aim is to be eligible for the battle of R50 000 in the Mayor’s Cup.”
