Sweet effect of Zeca

BLACK Leopards' new head coach, Zeca "Lollipop" Marques seems to have been the missing piece in Lidoda Duvha's puzzle.

THOHOYANDOU – BLACK Leopards’ new head coach, Zeca “Lollipop” Marques seems to have been the missing piece in Lidoda Duvha’s puzzle.

Since the Portugal-born mentor took over the reins this year, Leopards have yet to drop a point, beating Jomo Cosmos 1-0, Garankuwa United 5-2 and on Saturday, the Thohoyandou Stadium was abuzz when Lidoda Duvha mauled FC Cape Town 6-2 to book their place in the last 16 teams in the Nedbank Cup Challenge.

Roggert Nyundu, who is on loan from Polokwane City, scored a hat trick to take his goal tally to six in just three matches. Tshidiso Radebe banged a brace, with Mumuni Abubakar netting the other. Marques said he was not surprised that Leopards scored a total of 12 goals in three matches and conceded only four. He said Leopards would continue to play attacking, but entertaining football and score more goals under him.

“If you look at my history, you will see that teams I manage always score many goals. I try to play attacking football, but we do it in an intelligent way,” the former Moroka Swallows coach said.

In 2012, Lidoda Duvha surprised the football fraternity when they reached the final of the Nedbank Cup Challenge.

They lost that game 3-1 to Orlando Pirates, but they were presented with the opportunity to represent South Africa in the CAF Confederations Cup.

On Saturday, Leopards will have another chance to climb the ladder when they will host Witbank Spurs at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

After that game they will host Baroka FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, March 4 at 15:00.
