The Eagles Cricket Club successfully defended their premier league title during the final match of the league against Aces Cricket Club on Sunday.
POLOKWANE – The Eagles Cricket Club successfully defended their premier league title during the final match of the league against Aces Cricket Club on Sunday.
Aces won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Eagles put on a respectable score of 223 runs in 50 overs.
Despite losing nine wickets in their 50 over innings, Pieter Haasbroek made life difficult for Aces’ bowlers, scoring 105 runs.
Ruan Willemse scored 33 runs for the Eagles. Andrew Galloway, who retired from club cricket on Sunday, was the best bowler for Aces, taking two wickets for only 31 runs in his 10 over bowling spell.
Aces retaliated with the bat, but could not keep up with the likes of Eagles bowlers, Bradley Pieterse and Pieter Haasbroek.
Pieterse took four wickets for only 37 runs in his 10 over spell and Haasbroek took three wickets for only 20 runs in his 4 overs bowled.
Aces were all out for 142 runs, with Galloway being the best Aces batsman of the day, scoring 34 runs.
Eagles won by 81 runs and were crowned the 2014/15 Limpopo Impala Cricket premier league champions after accumulating 63 points in 14 games.
“It really showcases the quality of club cricket in Limpopo when the winners of this league could only be determined after the final match is played. It is a sign that club cricket is healthy,” said Limpopo Impala Cricket manager, Feizal Kimmie.
Hornbills Old Boys took second place with 60 points, while Aces were in third position with 53 points.
Seshego Cricket Club took fourth place on the log after they suffered a loss to Hornbills on Sunday.
Al-Fatah Cricket Club got promoted to the premier league after they defeated Tzaneen Asians in the promotional league play-offs, which took place at Nirvana cricket grounds on Sunday.
