Cricket union upbeat over Lilies’ future development
Despite suffering a loss against Eastern Gauteng, the future still looks bright for the development of the Limpopo Lilies women's cricket team.
POLOKWANE – Despite suffering a loss against Eastern Gauteng, the future still looks bright for the development of the Limpopo Lilies women’s cricket team.
The Lilies faced off against Easterns in a one day match on Saturday and a T20 match on Sunday.
The Lilies won the toss on Saturday morning and elected to bat. They were bowled out for 76 runs.
Easterns retaliated and scored 78 runs for the loss of one wicket in 14 overs, thus winning the match with nine wickets. Richelle Lambert was the best performer with the bat for the Lilies, scoring 20 runs off 41 balls.
On Sunday Easterns won the toss and elected to bat first. The women from Benoni scored 107 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.
In reply Limpopo Lilies scored 67 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Easterns won by 40 runs.
Lisa Cohen took an impressive four wickets for only 14 runs in four overs in her debut appearance for the Lilies on Sunday.
“We are truly impressed and encouraged by Lisa’s performance on Sunday, especially against a strong team like Easterns,” said Feizal Kimmie, manager of Limpopo Impala Cricket.
“Women’s cricket is on the rise provincially and nationally. It was not a good weekend with regards to the results but we are still learning in every game,” said Sedibu Mohlaba, spokesperson for Limpopo Impala Cricket.
The Lilies will play their last match for the season against North West on the 28 and 29 March at Nirvana cricket grounds.
