POLOKWANE – WHEN Baroka FC and Black Leopards face off in a National First Division (NFD) match this afternoon (Wednesday), Baroka will pin their faith on new recruit, Sabelo Mtshali.
The two sides will clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium at 15:30.
Baroka are still licking their wounds after they suffered at the hands of Cape Town All Stars and Royal Eagles, who beat them 1-0 and 2-0 respectively.
Mtshali is one of the new players drafted to Baroka by coach, Sello Chokoe from the Castle Lager Football Academy.
Mtshali, who hails from KwaZulu-Natal, is the second player to be signed by the team following the signing of Thabang Mothogwane, who is originally from Mamelodi Gardens in Pretoria.
Mothogwane was the first player from the pool of players who were part of the 2015 Castle Lager Football Academy campaign to be roped in by Chokoe.
The Ga-Mphahlele side is currently not doing well in the second division league and a lot of pressure will be on Mtshali and Mothogwane.
Ahead of this encounter, Matshali is justifiably on cloud nine for being able to ply his trade in top-flight football.
He says he is very excited about his new football home, but will never forget who gave him the limelight to shine.
“I am very grateful for the exposure the academy has given me. If it was not for the academy, I would still be stuck in the football wilderness with no hope of playing in the national leagues.
“This is what we were in the camp for, to show the Premier Soccer League and NFD coaches our skills. I gave my best and I am delighted that the Baroka coach saw my talent and finally included me in his team.
“If I am drafted into the starting line-up, I intend to treat the game like a cup final.”
