POLOKWANE – FOR many seasons, the Peter Mokaba Stadium had been a slaughter house for Ajax Cape Town, but on Saturday evening, the Urban Warriors ended the curse when they beat Supersport United 2-1 in their Absa Premiership match.
Toriq Losper and Erwin Isaacs scored the goals for Ajax, while David Mathebula scored for Matsatsantsa a Pitori.
United, who use the Peter Mokaba Stadium as their alternative home ground, came into the match reeling from a 5-2 thrashing at the hands of bottom of the log club Amazulu.
The Peter Mokaba Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for the Pretoria-based club and it was on this very ground that Gordon Igesund and his charges gave Kaizer Chiefs their first league defeat this season with a 2-0 score line three weeks ago.
Polokwane football lovers will have another chance to see Supersport United in action at the Peter Mokaba Stadium when they host defending champions, Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 on March 21, and the match will kick off at 20:15.
Before that, United will be out to return to their winning ways when they travel to the Free State Stadium to face-off with Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday, March 11, as well as a Tshwane derby against University of Pretoria on March 14.
Supersport United, three-time Premier Soccer League champions, are lying in a rather unfamiliar position on the log. They are occupying position nine with 27 points out of 21 matches. Two points separate them from Polokwane City.
