Leopards’ 5 wins

THOHOYANDOU – IT looked as if Vasco da Gama would derail Black Leopards from their four-match winning streak, but a penalty kick in the 83rd minute by red-hot striker, Roggert Nyundu ensured that Lidoda Duvha was able to register their fifth consecutive National First Division League win.

Leopards walked away with a 1-0 victory over Da Gama at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Their 1-0 victory over Jomo Cosmos, 5-2 mauling of Garankuwa United, 2-1 win over Witbank Spurs, 2-0 victory against nemesis Baroka FC and 1-0 weekend win over Vasco da Gama ensured Lidoda Duvha’s move to sixth position of the National First Division log with 33 points from 21 matches.

They only need six more points to reach the much sought-after play-off spot to fight for a spot in the PSL.

Lidoda Duvha head coach, Zeca Marques, who maintained a 100% win record since taking over the reins in January, said the five consecutive wins were now water under the bridge.

He said his focus was on Maluti FET College, the team that Leopards would meet on Saturday afternoon at the Charles Mopeli Stadium.

Marques said the players were motivated and they believed that they could be playing premiership football next season.

“We need to stay grounded and take each game as it comes. We want to win against Maluti FET College to keep our hopes of promotion alive.

“We have reached a good vein of form at the right time and if we continue to collect maximum points, we will make our supporters proud,” said Marques.

A win over Maluti FET College will put Leopards in the right frame of mind when they travel to FNB Stadium for a date with Absa Premiership log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs in their last 16 game of the Nedbank Cup on March 21.

The man behind the resurrection of Black Leopards, Zeca "Lollipop" Marques, says Lidoda Duvha is taking it one game at a time.
