POLOKWANE – The annual KFC Mini-cricket Provincial Festival will be held at the Polokwane Cricket Club on Saturday, where more than 850 learners from 25 schools across Limpopo will battle it out on the pitch.
Schools and teams are invited to get active and showcase their skills on a large scale.
Cheray van Blerk, Polokwane KFC marketing manager, says this provincial festival is the flagship event for the Limpopo Cricket Union in terms of the KFC mini-cricket calendar.
“KFC Polokwane is proud to be associated with the Limpopo Cricket Union and Cricket South Africa (CSA), who are the official organisers of the event”.
Van Blerk says some Protea players such as Thami Tsolekile, AB De Villiers and Vernon Philander came through the ranks of the mini-cricket programme, and that a continuing objective for CSA and the Limpopo Cricket Union is to continue producing future franchise and international players through this wonderful programme that KFC sponsors on a national level.
The learners will have the opportunity to play against other schools they ordinarily would not have been exposed to due to the far distances between them.
They will have fun practising their batting and bowling skills, develop self-confidence and get the physical excercise they need while having fun with their new friends on the pitch.
They will also get active during the KFC mini-cricket action zone challenge, which is a cricket skills challenge where teams compete against the clock.
There should also be a provincial player appearance by a Titans player depending on their availability.
Zac the CSA mascot will also attend to take pictures with the learners and encourage an active lifestyle.
“The main aim of KFC mini-cricket is to provide a game of cricket in its simplest form to young children and provide enjoyment at the same time. Boys play up to nine years old and girls play up to 13 years old with the purpose of promoting girls cricket in the country,” she says.
Residents are encouraged to support the players. Entrance is free.
