POLOKWANE – Karel Volschenk Sr and Karel Volschenk Jr from Makhado were crowned the winners of the Limpopo Pro 10 tournament that was played at the Polokwane Bowls Club on Saturday.
The duo battled against other clubs champions from various regions to claim the victory. The tournament was played as a 10-heads format. Polokwane was represented by Kallie Calitz in the male category and Lizette Deacon in the female category. The tournament seemed to be a bit tough for Calitz and Deacon as none of them managed to emerge as a winner.
Calitz and Deacon proceeded to the Limpopo Pro-10 finals after out-competing their fellow club mates during the club tournament that was played at the Polokwane Bowls Club on April 18. Volschenk Sr and Volschenk Jr had the opportunity to compete against other provinces in the national bowls tournament. The dates and venues for the tournament are yet to be confirmed.
Christo van der Merwe, Polokwane Bowls Club president, said the tournament was well played and all the players did their best to win the Pro-10 finals. “The tournament was categorised into two sections being section-A and -B and the winners in each section clashed in the final,” said Van der Merwe.
He added that they would be preparing for the Champ of Champs tournament that would be played on May 8 at the Polokwane Bowls Club. The Champ of Champs is played by club champions from various clubs from around the province and only one man and woman will emerge as the best.
