Baobabs beat Sunbirds

NOTWITHSTANDING the slippery slope performance that has beset the provincial netball side, Limpopo Baobabs, one of the players will be smiling all the way to the bank.

LIMPOPO – NOTWITHSTANDING the slippery slope performance that has beset the provincial netball side, Limpopo Baobabs, one of the players will be smiling all the way to the bank.

Rahab “Raba” Ngobeni (28) won the player of the match accolade – a R5 000 cash prize – for powering the Baobabs to their first ever victory last Friday since the commencement of the 2015 Brutal Fruit Premier Netball League at the University of Pretoria sports centre.

The goal shooter was instrumental in the Baobabs’ 46-42 demolition of Sunbirds with a remarkable display of target shooting.

She sauntered onto the court with a clear mandate to break the team’s losing streak.

But the ecstatic mood that followed their impressive victory was crushed last Saturday afternoon when they suffered a 50-45 drubbing at the hands of Kingdom Stars.

Before the weekend’s fixture programme, Baobabs had already lost four matches in succession.

The ladies in red, blue and white from the north are still campaigning in the second division and the current dismal run does not augur well for their future aspirations of gaining promotion to the elite division.

Asked about the team’s constant run of dismal display, the coach, Cecilia Molokwane explained.

“We have identified our mistakes and we are currently dealing with them.

“Our defense is doing well at the moment. We need to work on the mid-court problem of impatience.

“They still have to rectify a few errors to gel with the shooters. We are not particularly playing badly, it’s just some silly mistakes and being impatient.

“However, there is always room for improvement and we’ll do that meticulously”.
