School holiday golf fun for Lim’s junior golfers

Limpopo Golf Union supported by TaylorMade South Africa organised eight junior golfing events all over the province during the June/July school holiday. The winners were:

LIMPOPO – The June/July school holiday was a busy one and opportunities for every junior golfer in the province to play tournaments organised by the Limpopo Golf Union and supported by TaylorMade South Africa was realised.

Jean Sadie the Limpopo Golf Union operations manager organised eight junior events all over the province for golfers to get comfortable with competition golf and get practice in for a higher level of golf against kids from all over the province. The junior golfers taking part in these tournaments have their own order of merit where about 50 junior players are currently ranked. These rankings are used when selecting players to play in SA boys, girls and Inter provincial team events for juniors.

But not only are the juniors able to play in the junior events, they are all welcome to play in the open events that are held at each club once a year. The competition is tougher but all better for the kids.

These June/July holiday tournaments were held at Legends Golf & Safari Estate, Koro Creek Bushveld Golf Estate in Modimolle, Groblersdal Golf Club, Naboomspruit Golf Club, Tzaneen Country Club, Drakensig Golf Club in Hoedspruit, Hans Merensky Wildlife Golf Estate in Phalaborwa and Mogol Golf Club in Ellisras.

The winners for the holiday were:

• Legends – James Vorster from Tzaneen CC on 141, 3 under par.

• Koro Creek – James Vorster from Tzaneen CC on 154, 10 over par.

• Groblersdal – Ian Jacobs from Bank Golf Club on 153, 9 over par.

• Naboomspruit – Janus van Rooyen from Phalaborwa 156, 12 over par.

• Tzaneen – Devaux v/d Wath from Polokwane, 163, 19 over par.

• Hoedspruit – Jacques van Staaden from Nelspruit, 150, 6 over par.

• Hans Merensky – Brain Mawasha from Phalaborwa, 154, 10 over par.

• Mogol – Gerhard Pepler from Lephalale on 160, 16 over par.

A great thanks goes out to TaylorMade South Africa for supporting junior golf in Limpopo and the parents and juniors who travelled all over the province to compete in all these tournaments. The golfers don’t always know how much effort goes into making things possible for them, but Limpopo appreciates the effort of all the parents.

Lastly the people that made their vehicles available. Thank you and we hope that more and more people will follow your example and make transport available for the golfers who do not have transport.

The updated rankings will be available on the Limpopo Golf Union website www.limpopogolfunion.co.za  the Limpopo Golf Union Facebook page and Twitter feed @Limpopogolf
