POLOKWANE – Two tournaments remain in the Limpopo Golf Union’s Toshiba Cup play-offs.
Koro Creek Open- 3 October
Polokwane Open – 28 November
The first round of the Limpopo Golf Union’s Toshiba Cup play-offs were played on 12 and 13 September at Sesambos Golf Club in Swartwater. There were 58 entries on a nine-hole golf course.
Hilton Hughes went into the tournament as the leader.
After the first round, Charles du Plessis took the lead on level par with 11-year-old Declan Brews in second with an exceptional first round score of 76.
Jannie Bronkhorst was in third place together with several other players on 77 points.
The second round draw had all the leaders playing and Declan stood strong to finish on 78 with a tournament total of 155 for a tie in fourth place.
Cameron Nesmith came in on 153 total for solo third. Bronkhorst and Du Plessis finished with respective scores of 73 and 78 to finish together on a total of 150 points. This called for a sudden death play-off to decide the winner.
Bronkhorst and Du Plessis went back to play the 18th hole four times before. Only then on the last round Bronkhorst made par five and Du Plessis missed a short putt for five to finish with a six and hand the tournament to Bronkhorst. This is Bronkhorst’s second win in as many tournaments. He now leads the Toshiba Cup. The top five are very close to each other which makes for an exciting finish to the cup.
The Limpopo Golf Union thanks Toshiba Limpopo for the gracious sponsor and support. “They definitely helped to revive golf in Limpopo.”
