Darts players gear up for SA Darts Championship

POLOKWANE – Darts players in the province gear up for provincial darts tournaments which aims to prepare them for the South African Darts Championship to be held in Bloemfontein from 10 to 15 July.

There will be around 12 tournaments before the SA Darts Championship and the Limpopo Darts Association urges players to use these smaller tournaments as preparation.

According to the Limpopo Darts Association secretary, Susan van Jaarsveldt, the association still needs more players to join the sport to be able to send three teams of six each to the national tournament. “We need more players to increase our chances to compete in big tournaments. We will have league games in the province to prepare and this is a good opportunity for new players to join the association,” said Van Jaarsveldt.

She said there are only eight teams in the province and this is not enough. Van Jaarsveldt further said their mission is to grow the sport in the province and in turn produce professional darts players. She said people should realise darts are not just for older people.

Most league games and provincial trials are played at Mimosa Hall, back opposite Game Centre.

• Limpopo trials and Valentine dance – 13 February.

• Capricorn League and open tourney – 20 February, 16 April, 30 April, 28 May, 4 June, 30 July, 27 August, 31 September, and 29 October.

• Capricorn trials – 27 February.

• Limpopo trials – 5 March.

• Capricorn trials and provincial team to be announced – 26 March.

• Limpopo trials (for invited players only) – 2 April.

• Capricorn vs Vhembe (SA championship preparation) – 7 May.

• Champ of Champions (AGM Capricorn prize giving) – 5 November.

• Champ of Champions (AGM Limpopo prize giving) – 26 November.
