Hornbills crowned as LIC Premier League champions
The Hornbills Cricket Club claimed the title as the new Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC) Premier League champions.
POLOKWANE – With the rainy weather throughout Limpopo, only two of the four premier league games took place last weekend.
The biggest match of the weekend, however, was when the two leading teams of the premier league clashed in an epic match. The Hornbills took on the Eagles Cricket Club A-team and both teams played hard for the victory.
Hornbills entered the game needing one point too reclaim the premier league from the Eagles who reigned supreme for the last two years, and Eagles needed to win with a bonus point to claim the title for a third year.
The overs was brought down from 50 overs to 38 overs due to the rain, and Hornbills went in to bat first. After some very aggressive batting the Hornbills put up a very competitive score of 248, a score the Eagles fought hard to chase but was unsuccessful and could only put a total of 219 runs on the board making Hornbills the victors with 29 runs.
Hornbills went the entire season unbeaten, winning 11 out of their 12 matches and drawing one match. The Hornbills led the scoreboard with 72 points with the Eagles on their heels in second place with 62 points.
The promotional league will still be underway around the province and the Twenty20 World Cup will also begin after the promotional league.
