Supporter base of Sundowns grows at healthy pace
Supporter coordinator for Mamelodi Sundowns, Marshal Khumalo said he was happy about the increase in the support base of the team in the province.
LIMPOPO – The lockdown, however, has halted their ability to host recruitment drives, he said, but he was positive that after the pandemic the support base will be back to 100%.
“We will fill the stadiums once the fans are allowed to attend matches again,” he said.
He added that it was a first-time occurrence to have so much support in the province.
“I would also like to thank the president of the club for giving us the opportunity and for employing us. Sundowns is a big institution in South Africa and Africa as a whole and for me to be working there is a blessing on its own. My task is not only to focus on football but all sport codes as we have women’s soccer, and rugby teams, and plan to have a tennis, basketball, netball and cricket teams in future,” said Khumalo.
He wished coach Pitso Mosimane well on his new job at African Giants AL Haly.
“Coach Pitso Mosimane found Mamelodi Sundowns at Position 15 where we were on the verge of being relegated to the second division, but he helped us to win 10 league trophies and other domestic trophies. Last season we won three trophies which are the league, Telkom and Nedbank trophies and this shows the dedication and commitment. This is the reason the president gave him blessings on his future endeavours,” he added.
Khumalo also welcomed newly-appointed coach Steve Komphela who will be a senior coach and work with head coaches Rhulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mnghithi.
“Coach Komphela is an experienced coach who worked with many teams and he will be bringing experience to our team.”
