Tebogo ready to pitch up to realise Proteas dream

Limpopo Impala Cricket wicketkeeper Tebogo Macheke says the high-performance contract she will sign with Cricket South Africa (CSA) this month will change her life.

POLOKWANE – The rising female cricket star was included by CSA as one of the top 10 emerging cricketers in the country. She was part of CSA’s 16-player squad for the South African Emerging Women that toured Zimbabwe and Thailand in August.

“I am happy with this opportunity and I look forward to sign the contract. It will be my first lucrative contract and it will definitely change my life. I am from a large family and most of my relatives are unemployed. My mother does not have a job and they rely on me and my sister to buy essentials for the house. With my new contract, I will be able to renovate my parents’ house and buy certain essentials for myself.”

The 21-year-old added that the contract will motivate her to work even harder for a permanent contract with the Proteas.

“I dreamed about this since I was a child and I am happy to see my dream coming to fruition. It is possible to play for the Proteas, I just need to work hard and play more international games.”

Limpopo Impala Cricket CEO Tommy Phiri described Macheke as an ambassador for aspiring young female cricketers in the province. “We are proud of the achievements and the strides she makes in the game. She is an inspiration to upcoming female cricketers in the province. She proves that with hard work and commitment one can always prosper.”
