Tshinyadzo represents Limpopo at Seoul 2024 Marathon

Tshinyadzo Mudau, who is a member of the Faranani Athletics Club, celebrated the remarkable achievement as the first Vhavenda athlete to receive these medals.

LIMPOPO – Runner Tshinyadzo Mudau from Tshidzini village outside Thohoyandou raised the Limpopo flag high last week when he participated in the Seoul 2024 Marathon in South Korea.

In the past, Mudau received a World Major Medal for completing the six major world marathons: in Berlin, Germany (2015), London, UK (2018), Chicago, US (2018), New York City, US (2019), Boston, US (2019), and Tokyo, Japan (2023).

Mudau, who is a member of the Faranani Athletics Club, celebrated the remarkable achievement as the first Vhavenda athlete to receive these medals.

He said the marathon was good although it was very cold and windy.

“There were roughly 30 000 runners, dominated by the Korean runners. I feel so great to have been a part of this race. It is the second oldest marathon in the world and I am happy I brought a medal home to South Africa. It was a point-to-point marathon dominated by a flat course, and the support on the road was great and the marshals were on top of their game. I do not like excuses but as an athlete we must be ready for anything including all kinds of weather at any given time. I did my best under the windy and cold conditions.”

He said as an athlete, he sets goals for himself and when these goals become a reality, the excitement level cannot be measured.

“My wish is that this feat will encourage other athletes from Limpopo, showing them that it does not matter where you come from, you can always get what you want in life. When you stay determined, disciplined, and remain focused, you can reach the sky,” he said.
