Mayor John Mpe remarked that the Polokwane City Marathon epitomises a spirit of endurance, determination and community solidarity.

“It was good to see runners embarking on a journey that did not only test their physical strength but their mental fortitude too. It was good to see residents of Polokwane, as well as our friends and neighbours from other towns and cities, joining in this celebration of sportsmanship and philanthropy. Sport, in all its forms, holds a special place in the hearts of our citizens. It is not merely a pastime or leisure activity; it is a vital component of our identity, our culture, and our collective aspirations.”

He added that in Polokwane, they embrace the power to foster unity and build a stronger, more vibrant community.

“Through these events, we not only promote physical well-being but also nurture a sense of belonging and pride in our city, but beyond the realm of competition and athleticism, we recognise the central value of sports in everyday life.”

Palakgadi Seboba, one the runners from Moletjie said he enjoyed running with top athletes from various clubs.

“I came to the stadium early because I wanted to be the first one in line. It was my first time taking part in such an event. I participated in the 10km run and it was nice. Next year I will bring my wife and children to the event too.’’
