WATCH: Ultimate Comrades camaraderie from PAC runner

Polokwane Athletics Club member Moloko Makgato was seen assisting a female international runner alongside Team Vitality Club member Glenn Staples.

POLOKWANE – Polokwane Athletics Club (PAC) member Moloko Makgato demonstrated exceptional selflessness by pausing his race to aid another runner in the weekend’s Comrades Marathon (June 9).

Makgato was seen assisting a female international runner alongside Team Vitality Club member Glenn Staples. The duo assisted the runner to the finish line before the cut off time at 10 hours.

PAC chairperson Thabana Mokgohloa described Makgato’s act of kindness as incredible and shows great sportsmanship from the club, adding that he raised their flag very high.

“These are the types of runners we are proud of as a club,” he told the Polokwane Review-Observer.

Mokgohloa says that earlier this year, Makgato chose to compromise his entry to the Tshwane Ultra Marathon so that he could organise a refreshment station for his fellow club members at the finish point of the Loskop Marathon.

“He has always been an extraordinary club member serving the club in many aspects. Makgato is also the head of communications and serves with other committee members in the club’s Executive Committee. We have a great team serving the club on a voluntary basis.”

The PAC will be celebrating with their Comrades runners soon, according to Mokgohloa.

“We have the likes of Johannes Mosehla (The oldest Comrades Marathon finisher), Maropeng ‘Rocky’ Mojela (A sub 10-hour Comrades Marathon bus driver), Lucas Seleka Rahuma (A sub 12h00 Comrades Marathon bus driver) as well as Pelly Lamola and Tedius Forotiya (Comrades Marathon Silver medalists).”

“I am very happy to lead such extraordinary human beings,” he said.
