Teams gear up for Masedi and Muremelani Challenge

Sixteen soccer and netball teams vie for top prizes in the annual event which blends competitive sports with community spirit and social responsibility.

LIMPOPO – The annual Masedi and Muremelani Soccer and Netball Challenge is set to take place on Women’s Day, with the final matches scheduled for August 11. This year’s competition will feature 16 teams, showcasing a diverse array of talent.

According to Thabang Masedi, one of the organisers, the participating teams are Makhitha Oscar Stars, Makhitha Iyarunga, Midoroni Real Hearts, Legendary FC, Muraleni United, Hamula FC, Madrid, Ramantsha Blackpool, Deno FC, Rabali Pull Together, Maebane Academy, Tshikota Squad and Mabvuka Young Movers.

The competition promises exciting gameplay, with the winning team set to receive R10 000, soccer kits, a floating trophy and gold medals.

The runners-up will be awarded R6 000, two soccer kits and silver medals.

Teams finishing in third and fourth places will each receive R2 000.

Masedi expressed pride in hosting the annual event, highlighting the broader impact of sport on youths.

“The importance of sport in the lives of young people extends beyond simply keeping them off the streets. It teaches valuable life lessons and instils essential qualities such as discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, sacrifice and accountability,” he said.

He emphasised the role of the community, parents, teachers, sports teams, traditional leaders and schools in nurturing and developing these attributes in young people.

The event will utilise two grounds, and the netball winners in both the open and u/16 categories will be awarded trophies and medals.

Additionally, teams are encouraged to bring sanitary towels to be donated to local schools, adding a charitable component to the competition.

The Masedi and Muremelani Soccer and Netball Challenge promises to be a memorable event, blending competitive sports with community spirit and social responsibility.
