VFC head coach resigns after defeats

Head coach Duncan Lechesa parts ways with the Venda Football Club after string of disappointing results.

LIMPOPO – The relationship between the Venda Football Club (VFC) and head coach Duncan Lechesa has officially ended, as he resigned last Tuesday, club chairperson Itani Munzhelele confirmed.

Lechesa’s resignation comes in the wake of several disappointing results early in the season.

VFC started with a 2-0 loss to Milford FC at the Thohoyandou Stadium, followed by a 1-0 defeat to Cape Town Spurs at the Athlone Stadium. Their latest match on September 22, resulted in a goalless draw against Durban City, leaving the team without a victory.

In an interview, Lechesa said his decision was voluntary and made in the best interest of both the club and himself.

“I’ve tried everything to turn things around, but luck hasn’t been on our side,” he remarked,. “It’s time for new leadership with fresh ideas.”

Despite the resignation, Lechesa confirmed that there was no animosity between him and Munzhelele, a sentiment the chairperson echoed.

“Our personal relationship remains strong. We part ways professionally and wish him the best in his future endeavours,” Munzhelele stated.
