Westenburg Stadium hosts community soccer and netball tourney

Community West Hub hosts inclusive soccer and netball tournament in Westenburg, fostering youth development and community bonds.

POLOKWANE – Lebogang Mathole and Oupa Machaka from the newly established non-profit organisation Community West Hub (CWH) in Westenburg hosted a vibrant soccer and netball tournament from October 19-20 at Westenburg Stadium.

The event aimed to foster youth and community development, with a special focus on promoting inclusivity for people living with disabilities.

Participating soccer teams included Star FC, Pragmic, MJ Gateways, Lions of Westenburg, New Castle FC, Happy Fighters, and Dembare FC.

The netball teams featured Fly Ballers and Thunderbirds Netball Club.

The primary goal of the tournament was to unite young people and their families, in line with CWH’s mission of strengthening community bonds.

“We formed CWH after witnessing the devastating effects of substance abuse and drugs on young people, making success feel out of reach,” said Lerato Raphaswana, the chairperson of CWH.

The organisation hopes to restore hope and purpose in their community through engaging activities.

Their focus is not only to assist the youth but also to keep them active and away from negative influences, such as drugs and crime.

“Our long term goal is to support Ward 19 by developing athletes, soccer players, artists, young entrepreneurs, skilled individuals, and people living with disabilities,” Raphaswana added.

The tournament was deemed a success, and the organisers expressed pride in the turnout.

“We are very happy and proud of how well the event went, and we look forward to hosting more tournaments in the future,” said Raphaswana.

Tournament winners:
Soccer: Star FC.
Netball: Thunderbirds Netball Club.
