Mpheni Defenders FC ready for Nedbank Cup clash

Mpheni Defenders FC confident in their chances and set to face Hungry Lion in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 at Thohoyandou Stadium.

LIMPOPO – Excitement is building as Mpheni Defenders FC gears up for their upcoming Nedbank Cup Round of 32 clash against Hungry Lion. The draw, held at the Nedbank offices in Sandton last week, saw Defenders matched up against their peers from the Motsepe Foundation Championship League.

Head coach Sydwell Phuravhathu has every reason to be optimistic. The match will be played at the Thohoyandou Stadium, which Defenders have registered as their home ground for all their Nedbank Cup matches, offering them a familiar and supportive environment.

Phuravhathu said despite the challenges, the team is prepared to handle the pressure.

“We are ready to absorb any amount of heat,” he said confidently. Mpheni Defenders are currently second in the Limpopo Stream A of the ABC Motsepe League, with 16 points and a match in hand, proving their strength and determination on the field.

Meanwhile, fellow Vhembe-based team, Venda Football Club (VFC), will face Cape Town Spurs away in the same round. VFC head coach Stanford Nkoane is equally confident about his team’s chances.

“We are determined to win and use this victory as a stepping stone to the next round,” he said, promising supporters a strong performance.

With both teams representing the region in the prestigious competition, all eyes will be on Thohoyandou this weekend as Mpheni Defenders and Venda FC aim to advance in the Nedbank Cup.
