Seshego preps for final 32 in Nedbank Cup
PSL inspects Seshego Stadium ahead of Nedbank Cup Last 32 matches, as Polokwane teams prepare to play at home despite ongoing renovations.
POLOKWANE – As the Nedbank Cup Last 32 matches approach, the PSL conducted an inspection at Seshego Stadium on Wednesday, a crucial venue for three Polokwane-based teams.
Polokwane City FC, Magesi FC, and Sekhukhune United were all drawn to play at home, with the fixtures set from the weekend of January 25 onwards.
The teams face an unusual situation, as the Peter Mokaba Stadium is the only venue in Polokwane that meets the necessary PSL standards for hosting matches. However, the Peter Mokaba Sports Comples is currently undergoing grass rehabilitation after being damaged during a music festival. In light of this, renovations at Seshego Stadium have been ongoing, with the venue initially expected to be ready by October 2024. Despite missing this deadline, progress is evident.
PSL COO Ronnie Schloss was joined by Polokwane Mayor, John Mpe during the inspection. Mpe expressed satisfaction with the stadium’s final touches, including the beautifully finished grandstand and a pitch ready for matchday action.
“The Seshego Stadium is the home of Magesi, and we are hopeful it will boost their performance on the field, as well as benefit the local economy,” said Mpe. With a capacity of 15 000, including a 5 000-seater grandstand, the municipality is confident the venue will pass its final tests, paving the way for Magesi’s upcoming matches.
The match-ups for the Polokwane teams in the Last 32 include:
• Polokwane City FC vs The Bees (Mpumalanga).
• Magesi FC vs SuperSport United.
• Sekhukhune United vs Cape Town City FC.
The Seshego Stadium will likely become a key fixture for Magesi’s home matches in the coming weeks.
