Polokwane Muni to tackle stadium woes after Seshego floodlight fumble

Magesi FC and Chippa United will resume their match at midday on Wednesday after two power cuts left players and fans in the dark at the newly renovated Seshego Stadium.

POLOKWANE – Football fans at the newly renovated Seshego Stadium were left in the dark after two floodlight malfunctions disrupted the first half of last night’s match between locals Magesi FC and Chippa United.

The unexpected technical issue plunged the stadium into darkness, leaving players, officials and supporters frustrated with the match abandoned and players having to resume the game at midday today (February 5).

The malfunction prompted swift action and an apology from the Polokwane Municipality who issued a statement expressing deep regret for the disruption and extending apologies to the Premier Soccer League, Magesi FC, Chippa United and the fans.

“The municipality recognises the inconvenience this may have caused to players, officials and passionate football supporters and fully acknowledges the importance of delivering a seamless match-day experience,” their press release read.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala says a full investigation is now underway to determine what caused the failure, with officials stressing that all pre-match tests had confirmed the lighting system was fully functional.

“The municipality commits itself to ensuring the reliability of its sporting facilities and providing an optimal experience for both players and spectators,” Selala stated.

Despite the setback, the municipality has encouraged fans to keep their football fever alive by supporting Magesi FC at their much-anticipated match against Cape Town City on Saturday at the same venue.

The municipality has assured the public that all necessary precautions will be taken to guarantee a smooth game under the floodlights.

Meanwhile, fans and residents in the area took to social media to express their thoughts on the outage.
