97 new members join the Mzansi Athletics Club

POLOKWANE – Mzansi Athletics Club (AC) has grown in leaps and bounds, expanding from 15 members in 2017 to over 350 in 2025.
On Saturday, the club, now the second-largest in the province, hosted its annual orientation session to welcome 97 new members who joined since the beginning of the year.
Club chairperson Bilisi Rambiyana highlighted that all new members are first-time runners, aligning with Mzansi AC’s mission to promote a healthy lifestyle through running.

Coach Lufuno Mudau introduced the Couch to Comrades training programme during the session, encouraging newcomers to adhere to the regimen to achieve personal goals, including weight loss and completing ultra-marathons like the Comrades Marathon.
He emphasised the importance of assisting fellow runners during races, regardless of their club affiliation.
The event concluded with a celebratory gathering led by long-standing member Awenic Mathoni, who described Mzansi AC as a diverse family that fosters love and unity both on and off the road.
Rambiyana reminded members of the club’s constitution, specifically clause 8.6, which expects all members to “promote, protect, respect, and honour the name of the club”.
In a gesture of appreciation, members autographed the vest of Cassious Da-General, a pacer known for helping runners complete races. Da-General announced he would retire the signed vest as a keepsake.
