TVET athletes shine at Polokwane CoSACSA nationals

TVET college athletes from across South Africa competed in the CoSACSA national track and field event held at Peter Mokaba Sports Complex.

POLOKWANE – The College Sport, Arts and Culture South Africa (CoSACSA) national track and field competition was held at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex from March 31- April 4, bringing together athletes from all 50 TVET colleges across the country.

This annual event serves as a platform for students to showcase their athletic talents while representing their respective institutions in various track and field items.

Endorsed by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the South African Public Colleges Organisation (SAPCO), the competition aims to promote extracurricular activities within the TVET sector and foster a culture of sports excellence.

Godfrey Mabasa, media liaison officer for CoSACSA Limpopo, explained the broader impact of the event. “Identifying talent in the TVET sector is a key objective. Hosting this competition successfully also benefits the province by enhancing event coordination, boosting the local economy, and celebrating cultural diversity,” he said.

Athletes valued the experience not only as a sporting opportunity but also as a chance to connect with peers from different regions. Maitse Mamooliehi from the Free State said she was very excited about participating.

“It’s always great meeting people and making new friends. Representing my province and college on such a big stage is truly a privilege,” she said.
