LPKA kickboxers bring home medals from African Championships
Three Limpopo kickboxers earned multiple medals for South Africa at the WAKO African Championships, including three golds and three silvers.
POLOKWANE – Three talented kickboxers from the Limpopo Province Kickboxing Academy (LPKA) proudly represented South Africa at the recent WAKO (World Association of Kickboxing Organisations) African Continental Championships. The prestigious tournament saw participation from 572 competitors across 18 African nations, competing in various disciplines.
Among the standout performers was Theuns Duvenhage, who qualified to compete in a higher age division based on his performance at the South African Championships held earlier this year in Potchefstroom.
Despite the challenge, he showed exceptional skill, earning gold in point fighting and silver in musical open hand forms.
The Broekman sisters, Chantelle and Annelize, also delivered outstanding results. Shihan Nico Myburgh (Sr) of LPKA praised their dedication and consistent participation in major Wako events over the past year. “They both faced tough opponents, but their experience and perseverance helped them grow tremendously in the sport,” he said.
Annelize claimed silver in both light continuous fighting and point fighting, while Chantelle took home double gold – one in light continuous and the other in point fighting.
“We congratulate these three students on their exceptional achievements, not only at the African Championships but throughout the 2024 season,” Myburgh said.
Looking ahead, the world championships in China await later this year, and LPKA hopes all three will be able to compete on the global stage.
“It wasn’t an easy journey, but their hard work and dedication paid off,” Myburgh concluded.
