Polokwane hosts Rocky Nice and Easy half-marathon

The Rocky Nice and Easy half-marathon brought excitement as local runners competed across 21.1km, 10km, and 5km events at Peter Mokaba.

POLOKWANE – The Peter Mokaba precinct was a hive of activity on Saturday, as runners took part in the inaugural Rocky Nice and Easy half-marathon from 06:30.

Though the 21.1km was the peak, won by Jeffrey Morukhu, local runners such as Madihlaba Letebele from the Polokwane Athletics Club (PAC) and Johan van der Merwe of Polokwane Road Runners obtained positions eight and nine respectively in the men’s category.

Women from the local athletic clubs were even more competitive, occupying four spots in the top 10, but headed by Zimbabwean national, Evidence Mudzimiri who clinched first position in the 21.1km race, achieved in 01:40:21 beating the rest by over a minute.

These included Mancha Mothomogolo from PAC in position three, Tshegofatso Mabeba from PAC in position five, Noelene Maré from Pietersburg Road Runners in position seven and Mpho Maredi, also from PAC, who came in at ninth spot.

The 5km and 10km races were also interesting, joined by some who said they were just starting out and had hopes to participate in half marathons and eventually, marathons.
