Polokwane equestrian shines in Argentina

POLOKWANE – Local equestrian Jaili Shearer recently delivered a spectacular performance in Argentina, claiming top honours in the 1.10m class at the CSI1 Concurso in Luján de Cuyo. Riding her horse, Santa Fe Quality, and under the expert guidance of coach Valerio Baruzzo, Shearer proudly flew the South African flag on the international stage.

Speaking to Polokwane Observer, Shearer said both she and Santa Fe Quality were well-prepared for the competition. Their efforts paid off when she emerged victorious in both the individual class and the team event, competing alongside riders from Chile and Argentina in a field of 27 international participants.

Shearer reflected on the journey that led her to Argentina, noting that it all began in 2023 when The Ranch Resort’s Equestrian Centre hosted the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) World Jumping Challenge Final. “It was a truly special event that brought together more than 15 riders from across the globe. That’s where I met Valerio Baruzzo. He later invited me to compete in Argentina with the approval of both the South African and Argentinian federations.”

That invitation opened the door to compete at the FEI Concurso One Star at Casa David Equestrian Club, an opportunity Shearer described as unforgettable. “I knew from the start it would be an incredible experience, and winning just made it all the more rewarding. I’m deeply proud and grateful for everyone who supported me throughout this journey.”

Shearer described the moment of her dual victories as “the most exhilarating feeling,” adding that the camaraderie among her teammates and the warm hospitality of Argentina’s equestrian community made the experience even more special.

“This has to be the most incredible experience of my life. To be welcomed so warmly by the Argentinian equestrian community was beyond amazing. Thank you to South African Show Jumping (SASJ) for the unwavering support. The event at Casa David was truly world-class,” she concluded.
