Flora Park’s Diva Squad qualifies for nationals

Flora Park's new aero gymnastics team, the Diva Squad, makes history by qualifying for the Sasaff national competition in Cape Town.

POLOKWANE – History was made at Flora Park Comprehensive High School (FCHS) when its first aero gymnastics team, the Diva Squad, qualified for the South African Sport Aerobics, Fitness & Hip Hop Federation (Sasaff) national competition, which was hosted this past weekend in Cape Town.

The team consists of eight Gr 9 learners, and was formed earlier this year, led by passionate gymnast Tshepang Sekele, who had previously competed at a national level.

With no existing gymnastics programme at the school, Tshepang approached the principal to request support in starting one, and the school responded positively by bringing in a coach.

With dedication and teamwork, the group trained hard and submitted a recorded routine to Sasaff for evaluation. Their routine impressed the selectors, earning them a place at the national event.

“It hasn’t been easy, but we’re determined to represent the school and the province proudly,” said Tshepang. “We’re going to Cape Town with the goal to win, but just qualifying is already a big achievement for us, especially as a new team.”

Principal Ntsiene Joseph Masekela expressed great pride in the team’s achievements.

“They’ve put Flora Park Comprehensive on the national stage for aero gymnastics. It’s a proud moment for the school, and we are truly excited for them.”
